Reviving Memories Through Design: KP.A by 5+2 Design Perceptron Design Group

Transforming Farmland into a Unique Exhibition Space

From a fertile farmland in the 1980s to a concrete jungle today, the Dashu Mountain area in Hefei, Anhui has seen dramatic changes. Recognizing this transformation, 5+2 Design Perceptron Design Group has created KP.A, an exhibition space that pays homage to the area's past while showcasing the lifestyle of the present.

The inspiration for KP.A comes from the memory of the Dashu Mountain area as a grain land. As economic development and living standards have improved, the land that once nurtured generations has been replaced by concrete structures. This change prompted the designers to question what kind of lifestyle is being sold on this land and how it can be represented in design.

5+2 Design Perceptron Design Group's answer is an exhibition space that sells lifestyles from the cereal land. They have moved away from using volume as a benchmark and instead focused on basic living needs like houses and chairs. The space is presented through the variable volume of a cube, progressing to areas with different functional attributes. This approach has resulted in a rich variety of function settings and moving guides, minimizing the commercial intention of the venue and creating a relaxed spatial mood.

The design of KP.A is realized through the extensive use of wood materials, symbolizing the connection to the concept of grain crops. The shape of the space is defined based on the understanding of the functional area, making the generation of space simpler and more pragmatic. The design also focuses on the switching and integration of space, creating a unique visual impression and a soft, delicate atmosphere.

Despite the challenges of emphasizing the products in our lives without using a lot of color, the designers have managed to create a space that guides customers to understand the concept of residential products and their future life in a multi-dimensional way. The design is a testament to the endless techniques of art and the artistic atmosphere of space that is never separated from its practical attributes.

Located in Hefei, China, the design of KP.A began in February 2019 and was completed in July of the same year. The project has been recognized for its outstanding expertise and innovation, winning the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020. This award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
